Park Theater will soon treat Cottage Grove residents to “A Midsummer Night Dream,”—in the fall!
Penned by William Shakespeare during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I in England, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ will arrive in town Friday, Oct. 25 through Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Park High School Auditorium.
Set in Athens and a nearby enchanted forest, the comedy in terms of its theater genre has a happy ending—by definition. So what’s it all about exactly?
“A lot of moving parts,” co-lead Nathan Kinney offers for a brief description.
“It’s a play within a play,” co-lead Sasha McCauley adds.
“There’s like four stories going on,” co-lead Griffin Tina shares.
“There’s a lot of love triangles,” fourth co-lead Charity Lankow says of the Greek setting and character roles in the drama now over four centuries old.
Helped by a supporting cast, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ follows the four main characters as they deal with questions of timeless value. Along the way are a feuding Fairy King and Queen cross, actors preparing for the play at a duke’s wedding (hence the “play within a play”), and even mischievous fairies who intervene with magic, as play participants wrestle with matters of life and love.
Performances of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ start Friday, Oct. 25 and run through Sunday, Oct. 27. Showtime Friday and Saturday is at 7:00 p.m., while Sunday Oct. 27 will have a showtime of 2:30 p.m.
We leave the final assessment for now to play director and Park High alum Clark Donnelly.
“I’m excited as an alumni of Park Senior High School to be able to have the opportunity to present the play ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare,” Donnelly says. “It remains one of the most popular plays in the world over 400 years after it was initially performed. This play is a silly comedy, about love and identity, and it shows us how ridiculous the world can be. It is full of magic and wonder. I have no doubt that the audience will feel like they got their money’s worth from this play that is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.”
Tickets for the Park High Theater presentation of A Midsummer Night Dream are on sale now at https://www.parkwolfpack.org/tickets. Adults are $6.00, while student and senior tickets are $4.00.
Tickets can also be purchased in person at the school 30 minutes before the performance.
