Scoring drought continues for girls soccer team

Park’s scoring woes continued Saturday as the Wolfpack were shutout in a tough 1-0 loss to host Eastview.

It was Park’s third straight game without a goal. The Wolfpack fell to 2-2-5 on the season.

East Ridge 6, Park 0

Third-ranked and undefeated East Ridge broke away from a tenuous 1-0 lead at the half for a 6-0 victory Thursday over Park Cottage Grove’s Wolfpack Stadium Thursday.

Park had no answer for the Raptors in the second half who dominated the action.

“They (the Raptors) have girls who can hit some amazing shots from far out and just place them far upper corner,” said Park co-head coach Abby Kirsch. “They have a lot of speed, they attack all over the field, they take away your time and space. Yea, a lot of respect for that team and their ability to play together and play the game that they do.

“I think our first half was phenomenal,” Kirsch added. “We only gave up one goal in the first and I think that we took away their time and space a lot. We had a lot of runs up top, we switched a couple of positions around just because we had one girl gone. We brought up another girl, so I think just that adversity right away was really good. And I think we realized for the first 40 minutes we can play really well as a team and we are a good team.”

The Wolfpack fell to 0-2 in the Suburban East Conference and 2-4-2 overall.

Roseville 2, Park 0

Park’s inability to score can back to bite them Tuesday as the Wolfpack were shut out at Roseville.

With the exception of a 10-0 blowout against winless Burnsville, Park has had trouble scoring so far this season, putting in just six goals in six games.

Park plays at top-ranked and undefeated White Bear Lake (8-01) Thursday starting at 7 p.m., then is at Minneapolis Washburn (3-2-2) Saturday in a game starting at 1 p.m.
