On Sept. 6, the Park High School administration office received a call from the parent of a student who said they overheard that another student on the bus had a weapon in their backpack.
The Cottage Grove Police Department’s School Resource Officer (SRO) was called into the administration office and this information was shared. The SRO immediately requested assistance from on-duty patrol officers and detectives.
The entire school was placed in a hold while responding units and school officials investigated the allegation. No weapons were found. The result of the investigation is that no threats had been made and there was no danger to students or staff.
The school followed their established protocols to ensure the safety of students and staff. No charges will be filed and while no weapon was found, these threats are taken very seriously by the school and the Cottage Grove Police Department.
Students are often aware of situations before adults, so please remind your child that it is important for them to immediately report concerns to a trusted adult at school.
