Park wrapped up its best regular season in memory Monday, with a three-game sweep at Stillwater.
The Wolfpack ended the regular season with a sparkling 23-3 overall record and went 8-1 in the Suburban East Conference.
It’s been a heady ride for Park’s core seniors -- Carly Slusser, Sonja Lind, Hannah Maxwell and Mesa Jameson in particular. Those four were all key players three seasons ago as freshmen on a Park team that went just 2-11 during the Covid year.
Park has improved each season since, going 16-11 in 2021, 15-12 in 2022 and 18-10 last season.
Next up for the Wolfpack is the Section 3AAA tournament, which starts on Tuesday, Oct. 22 with the quarterfinals. The semifinals are set for Friday, Oct. 25 with the finals on Thursday, Oct. 31.
Section coaches will meet to determine the seeding, but it’s likely that Park will get the three seed and a home game on the 22nd.
This year’s section will be challenging, led by fourth-ranked and defending champion Eagan (18-5) and fifth-ranked East Ridge (18-6). Other teams in the section are Two Rivers (7-11-1), Hastings (9-13), Eastview (12-16), Rosemount (13-12) and Woodbury (4-19-2).
Park was a fourth seed in last year’s section, beating Eastview in the quarterfinals, then losing at top-seeded East Ridge in the semifinals.
Park wins Bloomington Jefferson tourney
The Wolfpack went to 22-3 on the season with a convincing sweep of four opponents Saturday in the Bloomington Jefferson tournament.
After winning the first two games in sweeps, the Wolfpack had to dig deep to pull off wins in the third and final rounds, winning both matches in three close sets.
Park defeated Forest Lake (25-20, 25-15), Andover (25-18, 25-18), Nova Classical (20-25, 26-24, 15-10) and host Bloomington Jefferson (26-24, 20-25, 16-14) to take the tourney title.
The wins were Park’s ninth straight of the season.
Park 3, Irondale 0
Park took care of business on senior night Thursday, sweeping visiting Irondale in three games, 25-15, 25-22 and 25-18.
The Wolfpack moved to 7-1 in the Suburban East Conference and 18-3 overall.

"I think we are playing our best volleyball," said junior hitter Ameenah Alowonle. "I think since last year we all gotten better as players and we have a better connection this year. I think we have more confidence, better connection and with the end of the season coming I think we have more fire and drive to go to state."

Asked what the Wolfpack need to do to achieve that trip to state, senior defensive specialist Peyton Moerke said, "I think that we definitely need to have confidence that we can make it there. I think we need to have a lot of fire in us and not give up whatsoever if we're down we need to keep lifting ourselves up and always have faith in each other that we'll get the next ball even if we lose a point."

Head coach Amy Johnson echoed what her players were saying when asked what the biggest improved the team has made since the start of the season.

"I think I'd call it quiet confidence," Johnson said. "Where we don't get too excited for the big play. We have the right amount of emotion for the big plays. And level-headiness in those moments of kind of that back and forth. We've really kind of settled down as a team and are just very level-headed."

Irondale fell to 0-8 in the league and 9-11 on the season.
Park 3, Cretin-Derham Hall 0
The surging Wolfpack made short work of host Cretin-Derham Hall Tuesday night, winning 25-22, 25-21 and 25-16.
Park improved to 6-1 in the Suburban East Conference and 17-3 on the season.
Cretin slipped to 2-5 in the conference and 15-11 overall.
It was Park’s fourth straight win and seventh in eight games. It was also the Wolfpack’s 10th sweep of the season.
