Jenkins runs to state and into the record books

Posted

Junior Dominic Jenkins ran all the way to St. Michael-Albertville and into the Park High record book at the same time to highlight Park’s efforts in the Section 3AAAA track and field meet held at East Ridge High School Wednesday and Friday.
Jenkins finished third in the 400-meter final in a personal record of 49.54 to qualify for state. His time was the second fastest in Park history, trailing only the all-time record of 48.28 set by R.J. Alowonle in 2012.
“Dom Jenkins ran a great 400-meter race to qualify on time for the state meet,” said Park assistant coach Brad Narveson. “The top two in each event qualify and any other athlete under a certain time make it. He finished third so we had to wait for the results to see if he made it under the time standard. When the official results were announced we knew he made it. He ran the second fastest time in school history. An incredible day for him. We had many other PR’s today which always makes a coach proud. We want our kids to compete and put forth their best effort. They did that this week.”
Park was eighth in both the boys and girls team races.
Eagan’s girls captured the girls team crown with 177 points, followed by 2, Hastings, 172. 3, Rosemount, 163. 4, Eastview, 152. 5, Apple Valley, 74. 6, East Ridge, 67. 7, Burnsville, 63. 8, Park, 22, and 9, Bloomington Kennedy, 20.
