Park bounced back from a pair of conference losses with an easy win over visiting Simley Monday, downing the Spartans 13-4 in a non-conference contest.
Angelo Cullen and Bradley Johnson each put in three goals to lead the Park offense.
“To be honest I think our defense actually played really good tonight,” said Cullen. “A lot of good slides, a lot of good where they didn’t get a touch, they weren’t allowed to get a touch, that was really nice. I thought our midfielders got back a lot faster than most normal games. On offense we worked the ball around pretty well. Dodges worked a good percentage of the time. Great looks, and the usual. We spun it nicely.”
Park came in after losing to Stillwater 16-5 and Roseville 10-9 last week in Suburban East Conference action.
But the Wolfpack looked strong start to finish against Simley.
Sam Reckinger, Jacob Czarnota and Henry Voss scored to give Park a 3-0 lead after the first quarter. Park eld 7-1 after two, and after three.
“I think we picked up ground balls very well,” said Czarnota. “We moved the ball off the ground once we picked it up. Defense we played very fundamentally sound, moved the ball in the clears very well. Offense, we moved off ball which was very nice and when we shot, we shot the ball where it needed to be placed.
“I think we started off slow (in the season),” Czarnota added. “We had a few games where we didn’t play the best we could of. I hope this can get us started, moving us forward to the next week. So hopefully this can give us some energy.”
“It’s a good bounce back game,” said Park head coach Matt Foote. “We finally are able to get the ball in the back of the net. Still not a complete game but pretty close. Defense played really good, boxing everybody out, moving them to the outside. If they’re going to get beat, they’re letting them beat them down the alley rather than over the top so that’s something positive. And we did a lot of good faceoffs. I was happy to see that. Good bounce back game.”
Park improved its record to 3-5 with the win. The Wolfpack host Irondale (1-5, 2-5) Wednesday, then play at East Ridge (5-1, 7-1) Friday and at Woodbury (3-2, 5-2) Monday.
